Jequirity Bean Bracelets - Warning

We have received the following information/warning from the Leicestershire County NHW Association:-

These potentially deadly bracelets have been found in various locations throughout the country. We are not aware of any being found in Leicestershire, but residents are being urged to be cautious.

Residents have been urged to return bracelets made from highly toxic Jequirity beans. They may have brought back from popular UK tourist attractions. The ladybird-like red and black seeds which make up the bracelets can be fatal if chewed or swallowed.

Burglaries - Good News

We have received the following message from our beat officer PC Rich Carruthers:-
Burglar arrested following a stop check on one of the car parks off Meadow Lane last Thursday. Officers were patrolling after the beat team highlighted an issue with littering. The occupants were spoken to and a smell of Cannabis emanated from the car. Checks on the occupants lead to an arrest of the males for being wanted for burglary. Charges were sought for no insurance, no MOT, no driving licence, possession of a class B controlled drug and burglary. The car was seized.

Covert burglary patrols by PC carruthers and PCSO Venables on the same night may have disrupted potential burglaries in the area. One vigilant member of the community even rang the police to report them as suspicious males!

Potential burglaries were thwarted the previous evening when two known burglars were challenged in Birstall by undercover officers. They were legally harassed until they left the area and were clocked returning home empty handed. The law doesn't allow the police to arrest without any offences.

City Council planning staff and the Mayor, Cllr Sir Peter Soulsby, are expected to attend this meeting.
There is also a meeting of the County Council’s Area Forum Meeting on Wednesday 14 March at Birstall Social Club (nb: not British Legion). This will deal with Travellers’ Sites as an extra item, starting at 5.30 pm. This meeting should be attended by City Council planning staff, Mat Bagley of the Multi Agency Traveller Unit and Police Sergeant Simon Ward who deals specifically with traveller issues.
Collect the consultation leaflet and questionnaire (available from the Parish Council offices and various shops around Birstall) and ensure that you fill in the questionnaire either on line or send it in by post by Friday 13 April.
