Serial Thief Jailed for 2 Years

A serial thief who burgled a 90-year old Birstall man's home has been jailed for 2 years.

The Birstall man tackled the thief he caught wandering around his home and pushed him out.

However, the pensioner was unable to stop drug addict Darren Lane grabbing his wallet as he left.

The victim later realised other items including a collection of watches of sentimental value – including one dating back to World War Two – were also missing.

The judge said the defendant had a "horrendous list of 107 previous convictions" dating back to 1986. They included offences of burglary and 57 thefts.

Lane (37), of no fixed address, admitted burglary, theft of the car and driving it without insurance or a licence.

High Pressure Sales - Roofing Works.

We have received a number of complaints recently about high pressure selling of a roofing repair/coating system. These salesmen appear to particularly target elderly householders.
Our advice is:-
Always obtain at least two quotes from companies/tradesman recommended to you by friends or neighbours.
Never sign anything or pay a deposit to any cold calling salesman until you have had at least 48 hours to considered it.

If in any doubt, talk to your family/Friends before agreeing to any work etc.
