Insecure Property.

The following message has been received from the Charnwood Local Policing Unit:-

Inspector Duncan Southall and Officers at the Charnwood Local Policing Unit are aware that there has been an increase in vehicle crime and home burglaries over the last two weeks in Birstall. Unfortunately, upon investigation, it was found that a number of both crimes were made easier for the offender, because the vehicle / property had been left insecure.
With Christmas approaching and the extremely cold weather, we can be all rushing about and not taking the care that we would take normally. However, we do not want people to be victims, so we would ask you to double check the security on your vehicle / home, when leaving them.
The local Police have been increasing their presence in the village with additional uniform and plain clothes patrols.
Officers and staff at the Charnwood Local Policing Unit wish you a Happy and Peaceful Christmas, followed by a Healthy and Crime-free 2011.

Nuisance telephone call.

One of our members has called to report an aggressive telephone call she received. The caller referred to 'Home Energy Efficiency', and wanted to make an appointment to visit the property. No name of any company was given and when questioned the caller became very aggressive. At one point, in answer to a question, he said "You answer my questions".
Our advice is; If you receive an unwanted call, simply put down the phone straightaway. There is no necessity to talk to, or even be polite, to cold callers (especially those who don't tell you who they are !).
