Distraction burglary Saltersgate last night

Around 10pm last night (Wednesday 25th November) a distraction burglary took place at one of the bungalows on Saltersgate Drive. The burglar received a warning on the head with a walking stick before leaving.

The police are aware of callers from a home insulation company earlier that evening and have confirmed their authenticity.

Were you in the area on Wednesday evening? Did someone call at your house around that time? Do you remember seeing anyone behaving suspiciously?

Earlier in the week - on Sunday - a man called at a house on Harrowgate Drive asking about a Sky box. The caller knew the name of the resident and became quite annoyed when the resident refused to open the door (the resident doesn't have Sky).

The caller was a white male in his early 20s.

Were you in the area on Wednesday? Did someone call at your house around that time?

Any information to the Police (0116 222 2222) and Watch (267 6397) please.

Distraction Burglary

We have been asked by the local police to circulate the following as a warning to residents:-

A distraction burglary took place in Wymeswold between 7.50 p.m. and 8.15 p.m. on Tuesday 17th November 2009.

The reason given, by a male with an Irish accent, for gaining entry was that he lived close by and he had seen persons breaking into the house via the rear of the property. Another male then appeared from the rear garden. They both encouraged the victim to go and check in the rear garden. When the victim went back into the house, one of the men was in the front room. After a short while they both left and it was later found that cash had been stolen.

Please encourage people in your area not to let people into their homes, unless they have a prior appointment, and it is best not to open the door when it is dark.

Number plates stolen.

Between 8.00pm on Friday 20th November and 7.00am on Saturday 21st November, both front and rear number plates were stolen from a car in Curzon Avenue (middle part).
Were you in this area at this time? Did you see or hear anything? Please report any information on (0116) 2222222

Note:- Tamper proof screws for vehicle number plates are available from car accessory shops. Number plates that shatter when an attempt is made to remove them are also available.

'Car Key' Burglary.

Overnight last friday, 13th-14th November, a house on Greengate Lane (close to the cemetery) was burgled.
Sometime late friday night or early saturday morning the keys for and subsequently a Land Rover parked on the driveway was stolen. Were you in this area around this time? Did you see anything suspicious? If you have any information, however minor, please report it on (0116) 2222222.

Telephone scam - again.

An elderly member has reported to us that she received a call from someone offering to transfer her bank accounts to a bank which paid much higher interest rates. No name name of any bank was mentioned. All the caller needed was details of her accounts and she would be much better off !!! This lady did the right thing and put the phone down.
Our advice remains the same:-
NEVER GIVE OUT ANY BANK OR ACCOUNT DETAILS TO ANYONE OVER THE PHONE.
