Clairvoyant scam.

One of our members has received a letter from 'Angela ?, Clairvoyant'. It states that Mr B's astrological signs indicate good fortune for him. All he needs to do is send £12.00 plus £3.15 postage, together with his date of birth and an email address and he will "receive this good fortune".
We believe the only one heading for good fortune in this scam is 'Angela ?', and it's nothing to do with astrology.

Scam phone calls - bank details please!

On Thursday 7th May at 8.45pm, a resident on Ambergate Drive received a phone call from a man claiming that she had been overcharged on her Nationwide account to the tune of £550. He wanted her bank details in order to rectify this error!!

He was most insistent, even when she declined to give the details. Eventually, the line went dead. Her neighbour had had a similar call. She checked with Nationwide the next day and they had not authorised such a call and her account was in order.

Never give your bank details over the phone or at your door unless you have done your own "security checks" to be 100% sure of who they are.

If in any doubt, don't give any details and simply hang up. You can always visit the bank or call them (using a number from the phone book or statement, not one that the person on the phone gives you!)

Vandals caught red handed

While on a covert patrol in the Meadow Lane are on Friday night (1st May), PC Richard Carruthers crept up on three youths committing damage to the park furniture by means of graffiti. Marker pens were seized.

They have never been in trouble before and were visibly shaken by the Police presence. They were all males 18, 20 and 21 years old!

PC Carruthers has already arranged for them to clean up their mess. They will be scrubbing ALL the graffiti from the climbing frame and PC Carruthers will then inspect it.

Another excellent example of neighbourhood policing and restorative justice in action in Birstall!
