Coach attacked as it travels through Birstall

Police are appealing for witness after a bus was damaged on Loughborough Road in Birstall.

The incident happened at about 8.11pm on Tuesday September 15, 2009 when a National Express coach was travelling along the A6 Loughborough Road in the direction of Loughborough.

As the coach passed the junction with Bentley Road a brick was thrown at the nearside window causing it to smash. A tub of margarine was also thrown at the front of the bus.

The driver safely stopped the bus and nobody was injured.

Passengers saw a group of three youths, believed to be involved in the incident in the area at the time. They are described as about 14-years-old and one of them had long hair.

PC Kevin Gray, who is investigating the incident said: “Did you see a group of three youths matching this description in the Bentley Road area that Tuesday evening? If so, please contact me.

“We're appealing for anyone who may have any information about this incident or remembers any suspicious activity in the area between these times to get in touch.”

Theft of garden ornaments/planters.

We have heard of a number of incidents of thefts of garden ornaments/planters from front gardens recently. These have occurred in various parts of the village over the last two weeks and we understand that not all have been reported.
Please check your gardens regularly and report any thefts on (0116) 2222222.

It is important that all crimes are reported to the police.

 

Vandalism - Birstall Road.

In the early hours of Saturday 19th September, there was an incident of vandalism affecting the front gardens of two houses on Birstall Road (close to the Village Hall). It is thought that this occurred between 4.00 - 5.00am.
Not many people would be around at that time. If you were, and saw or heard anything suspicious, please report it on (0116) 2222222.

 

Two men arrested in connection with burglary in Birstall

Officers have arrested two men in connection with a burglary in Birstall.

Police were called to the incident at around 9.30pm yesterday evening (Sunday September 13) after two men were spotted by neighbours breaking into a house on Birstall Road.

One of the men was located near to the scene by an officer and police dog Obi located the second man in a bush nearby.

It is believed that nothing was taken in the burglary.

Both men, aged 19 and 22-years-old, remain in police custody.

Man arrested in connection with incident in Birstall

Police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with an incident in Birstall.

The incident happened on Wednesday September 16, shortly after 12 noon in Sibson Road, when a man was assaulted with an iron bar prior to a road traffic collision.

A 22-year-old man attended Loughborough local policing unit yesterday to speak with officers and was subsequently arrested.

He has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Four youths involved in a fatal crash on Greengate Lane in a stolen car have been locked up.

Burglary - Walker Road.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a house was burgled and a car was stolen from a house in Walker Road, Birstall.
The first incident happened between 2am and 6.30am on Tuesday August 25, when the occupants woke to find a window at the back of the house had been forced open and property had been taken.
Stolen was some of the victim’s jewellery, a men’s Tissot watch, a Bose Ipod docking station, a quantity of Euros and Greek Drachma and two sets of car keys.
Two youths were seen near to the house at the time of the incident.
One of them is described as white aged, around 16 to 21-years-old and had blonde hair. He was wearing a grey top and was around 5’8” tall.
The second youth is described as white, around 6ft tall and was also wearing a grey top.
The following evening (Wednesday August 26) at around 10.35pm the victim heard, from inside her house, the sound of a car being driven from her gravel driveway. When she looked outside she could see her husband’s car had been taken and her car had been driven in to her fence.
The stolen vehicle is a silver Mazda 3, vehicle registration FG07 UDJ.

PC Phil Woodthorpe, the officer investigating the incident, said: “The victims have been left feeling very vulnerable after having their home burgled one day and their car stolen the next. “We are keen to speak with two youths who were seen in the area at the time of the burglary on August 25. We would like to ask the two to contact us and help us with our investigation as they could have witnessed the incident and have vital information.
“As the suspects came back a second time the likelihood of someone seeing the incident is increased so we are hoping that anyone who witnessed either incident either the Tuesday or Wednesday August 26 will contact us.
“We would also like to appeal to anyone who has seen the stolen vehicle since the theft to call us with details of its whereabouts.”

Attempted Distraction Burglary.

An attempted distraction burglary has occurred on Blenheim Road.
The incident took place at approximately 8.00pm on Sunday 6th September. The suspect was a White male, well built, short brown hair and wearing a black suit. A car was used by the suspect and was parked on Blenheim Road close to Dalby Avenue.

Identity Theft - Warning

On Thursday 3rd September, Recycling Day in Birstall, two men were seen searching refuse bags and apparently removing some paper items. This incident occurred in the Stonehill Avenue area of the village.
Please be careful about disposing of any items that contain personal information which could be useful to criminals.
The Watch strongly recommends that all papers containing personal information such as names/addresses, account numbers, utility bills etc. are destroyed before disposal by either shredding or burning.
