Burglaries.

Overnight 27th/28th August, Friday/Saturday, the following incidents occurred:-

Paget Avenue (middle part) - House burglary.
Paget Avenue (middle part - 2 Shed/Garage burglaries.
Iris Avenue - attempted house burglary.
Stonehill Avenue - attempted house burglary.

All these incidents were within approximately a 100yd radius of each other.

Good News: Mini Moto Seized!

A mini moto motorbike was seized by police from an address in Birstall using Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 legislation following anti-social riding around the village witnessed by three police officers and following numerous reports from members of the public.

One person is to be interviewed in the near future with regard to their behaviour.

 

Birstall Burglaries.

Birstall has been hit with a large number of burglaries in the last few days:-

Overnight 21st/22nd August. Saturday/Sunday.
Saltersgate Drive (midle part) - House burglary.
Saltersgate Drive (middle part) - 4 Shed/Garage burglaries.
(all houses are next to each other, access gained through gardens).
Johnson Road (middle part) - House burglary.
Loughborough Road (close to Hermitage Road) - 2 Shed/Garage burglaries.
Tempest Road - Shed/Garage burglary.

Overnight 24th/25th August. Tuesday/Wednesday.
Curzon Avenue (close to School Lane. - Shed/Garage burglary.
Greengate Lane (close to the school) - Attempted house burglary.
Johnson Road (middle part) - Shed/Garage burglary.
Harrowgate Drive (close to Queensgate Drive) - Shed/Garage burglary.
Queensgate Drive (close to Harrowgate Drive) - Shed/Garage burglary.

Scenes of crime officers are working extremely hard to identify potential offenders through forensic examinations. Any further information gained through the community would be extremely welcomed.

Off road motor bikes being stolen.

We have received the following message from the local police and have been asked to publicise it as much as possible:-

There has been a noticeable increase of incidents of Off-Road Motor Bikes/Monkey Bikes being stolen across this area. Owners of this type of motor bike are warned to be extra vigilant.

 

Trading Standards Alert: Phone scam targets benefits claimants

Leicestershire County Council Trading Standards Service has recently received a complaint regarding a scam and would like to issue a warning to all Leicestershire residents to be vigilant when receiving telephone calls asking for personal information.

The complaint received by Adults and Communities, and passed to Trading Standards involved a vulnerable adult receiving a telephone call claiming that the resident’s welfare benefits were going to stop and that the resident actually owed money. The caller wanted the resident’s bank details. This telephone call was traced and found to be made from aboard.

Trading Standards would like to remind residents that bank details, passwords, pin number etc are personal information and that no reputable company or organisation would cold call and ask for these details.


 

Kingsgate Avenue - shop burglary.

At approximately 1.45am on Tuesday 10th August a shop on Kingsgate Avenue was broken into. It is believed two men were involved, one wearing a white shirt and one wearing a black jacket. They were last seen walking away from the scene up the hill on Kingsgate Avenue. It is assumed that they must have had a vehicle parked somewhere in the area.

Burglary and car stolen.

Overnight on the 5th/6th August (Thursday/Friday), a house on Stonehill Avenue was burgled and a car stolen from from the the driveway. The stolen vehicle is a white Citroen ZX Auro Estate and has the words 'Canine Company' on it.

Charity collections.

Over the recent few weeks a number of calls to the Watch have reported that a young girl ( 9 - 11yrs old ) has called at houses in the village to collect money donations for charity. The specific charity seems to change week by week.
We do not know whether this is a genuine collection or not.
If a young girl calls at your house to collect money donations, please report it immediately to the police (0116 2222222), they are very keen to check this out.
