Leaflets from City & County NHW Association

We've had reports of leaflets being delivered from City and County Neighbourhood Watch Association asking for £11 to joing. This is an independent organisation not affiliated with Birstall & Wanlip NHW nor the Neighbourhood Watch and Home Watch Network (the official body that represents NHW nationally to the Home Office). There is absolutely no need to pay any money to join NHW. Birstall & Wanlip asks for a donation, it is not a fee or subscription.

NHW Membership

Yet again it has come to our notice that leaflets are being distributed in the area asking for an £11.00 membership fee for membership of a NHW group.

Members of the Birstall and Wanlip Village Watch should completely ignore these leaflets.

If you are a member of Birstall and Wanlip Watch, you are automatically part of North Leicestershire NHW Association, the Leicestershire and Rutland NHW Association and the Neighbourhood and Home Watch Network (National Association). All of whom are registered with and recognised by the police. No further membership is required.

101 to replace 222 2222 as non-emergency police contact number

On October 17th 2011, the police national single non-emergency number – 101 – will be rolled out across the Leicestershire Force area. All 43 Chief Constables have agreed to adopt 101, which already operates in a four forces with great success.

From October 17 2011, calling 101 will replace the dialling of 0116 222 2222 for all non-emergency calls.

Members of the public can call 101 for updates on cases, to add information to an existing case or to contact their local officer.

For emergencies you will continue to call 999.

'Cowboy' Roofers.

We have had a number of reports in the last few days of roofing/building contractors touring the village. Their technique is to scare you into having unnecessary work carried out immediately (and obviously for a cash payment). If any tradesman doesn't supply you with an address and a 'landline' telephone number, be suspicious.

Our advice is as always:-
1) Use local tradesmen whenever possible.
2) Ask friends and neighbours for recommended tradesmen.
3) Obtain at least three quotes for any work.

Burglary - Roman Road

At approximately 2.30pm on Tuesday 27th September a house at the lower end of Roman Road was burgled. The criminals made off in a vehicle which was then involved in a traffic incident in Sibson Road, before leaving the village via Greengate Lane.
Were you in this area around this time, did you see or hear anything suspicious either before or during these incidents ? Please report any information on (0116) 2222222.
