Crime prevention road shows touring Charnwood
Crime prevention and fire safety road shows are being held in Charnwood in a bid to reduce burglaries and anti-social behaviour during a busy couple of months. With Halloween, Diwali, bonfire night and Christmas on the horizon, the police are aware that there is a potential for crime to increase during such a busy time. Officers are working with the Charnwood Community Safety Partnership and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service to deliver fire safety and crime prevention advice sessions in Syston, Thurmaston, Birstall and Barrow between October 24th and 26th.
Representatives from all three organisations will be in the villages to offer advice, give out useful information and answer any queries people may have. They’ll be reminding people to be careful with candles around Diwali and Christmas; to lock up when they are out celebrating and not to leave anything of value in their vehicles while they are shopping. A large advertising van will be dropping in to remind people to report suspicious activity to the police.
Officers will also be encouraging everyone to register with Immobilise - the free national property register - and record all their identifiable items. They will be using a Hermes scanner, a hand held device which can be used to accurately and quickly register property onto immobilise. People can register things like their phones straight away and when they go home log on to the system and add other items. Registering with Immobilise helps the police to return property to its rightful owner should it be lost or stolen anywhere in the country.
The road shows are part of Operation Dynamo, the Force wide anti- burglary campaign.
