Distraction Burglary - Update.
Elderly woman victim of distraction burglary in BirstallAn elderly woman in Birstall has been the victim of a distraction burglary after two men entered her home.
The incident took place at about 5pm on Monday June 14 in Beechfield Avenue, Birstall. The victim was asleep in her lounge when she awoke after hearing a noise at the front door.
A man claiming to be a delivery man or workman entered the house and whilst he distracted the victim another man entered the house through the back door and searched the premises. Nothing was stolen during the incident.
The offender who distracted the victim was Asian and the second offender was white.
Detective Constable Alf Doyle is investigating the incident, he said: “This was a distressing incident for the elderly victim and I am keen to trace the people responsible for this crime.
“Were you visited by someone in similar circumstances or did you see two men acting suspiciously in the area on Monday June 14? If you believe you can help with our investigation I would urge you to contact us immediately. Any calls received will be treated in confidence.”
