Scam phone calls - bank details please!
On Thursday 7th May at 8.45pm, a resident on Ambergate Drive received a phone call from a man claiming that she had been overcharged on her Nationwide account to the tune of £550. He wanted her bank details in order to rectify this error!!He was most insistent, even when she declined to give the details. Eventually, the line went dead. Her neighbour had had a similar call. She checked with Nationwide the next day and they had not authorised such a call and her account was in order.
Never give your bank details over the phone or at your door unless you have done your own "security checks" to be 100% sure of who they are.
If in any doubt, don't give any details and simply hang up. You can always visit the bank or call them (using a number from the phone book or statement, not one that the person on the phone gives you!)
