Scam phone calls - bank details please!

On Thursday 7th May at 8.45pm, a resident on Ambergate Drive received a phone call from a man claiming that she had been overcharged on her Nationwide account to the tune of £550. He wanted her bank details in order to rectify this error!!

He was most insistent, even when she declined to give the details. Eventually, the line went dead. Her neighbour had had a similar call. She checked with Nationwide the next day and they had not authorised such a call and her account was in order.

Never give your bank details over the phone or at your door unless you have done your own "security checks" to be 100% sure of who they are.

If in any doubt, don't give any details and simply hang up. You can always visit the bank or call them (using a number from the phone book or statement, not one that the person on the phone gives you!)
